My experience is what matters. Why should I pay for a resume and cover letter when I can't change that?
Your experience will be the key factor to determine what kind of job you can get. We would never pretend that someone without a law degree, for example, could get a job at the nation's top law firm with a cleverly deceptive resume. Jobs that are within your reach, however, (and there are likely more than you think) can be affected by the contents of a resume or a smart cover letter. This is because you are going against tens, sometimes hundreds, of candidates that are also qualified for the same position. At these times, your qualifications have to shine, and a quality cover letter and resume that is written by people who know what the hiring professionals are looking for can do that for you.

I like my resume, and I don't want it totally altered — I just want some problems fixed. Will my resume writer be okay with that?
Your resume project can be a total teardown or a slight makeover. It's up to you. Your resume writer will work with you throughout the process to ensure that the final product is both something that he or she thinks will maximize your chances in your job search and something that meet your satisfaction. The happy medium may be difficult to achieve, but that is why we will involve you in the process.

May I request a different writer?
We would prefer that you work with with your initially assigned writer if you have a problem with the materials he or she has provided you. Submit comments on the comment board and make revisions to the drafts your writer has provided. Your writer will take your concerns into account and revamp your resume to your liking. If you have additional concerns, please call us at 800-737-9344.

Do you print resumes, as well?
Our sister company, Legal Authority, provides printed copies of your resume and cover letter as part of a targeted mailing for your job search. However, Attorney Resume's final products will be uploaded to our secure database in a Microsoft Word document. Other formats, such as PDF, are available upon request at no extra charge.

May I choose the format for my resume and cover letter?
Part of what we do differently than other resume services is that we employ resume formats, including chronological, functional, and hybrid formats, which will provide the best method to present your information in consideration of your present job search. For example, if you are considering a career shift and you have work experience in the past that would compliment your current search, a functional resume will help you emphasize your previous work experience. However, despite this, a traditional chronological resume may be the most effective for certain markets. We want the writing process to be as collaborative as possible, so please let us know your preferences, and we will work with those accordingly.

Why should I hire a professional resume writer?
As highly qualified professionals, we know how to write resumes that will market you to potential employers and that will get you interviews. If you are not an experienced resume writer or recruiter, you should consider our services as an investment in your future. This service will pay for itself over and over again by competitively positioning you above other candidates who are competing with you for the same position.

For whom does Attorney Resume write resumes?

How does the actual resume-writing process work?
Attorney Resume has resume writing, customer service, and technical departments of full-time staff ready to serve our clients. Once clients register with Attorney Resume, upload a completed questionnaire, and any additional documents to our database, they are provided an anticipated deadline by which they can expect their order to be completed. Clients often find that emails from our database end up in their bulk mail box instead of their inbox. Each email service is a little different, but if this has happened to you, identify the email received as "not spam," and the next time you receive an email from us, it should go into your inbox. Next, clients are assigned a professional resume writer with whom they can expect to work throughout the process. You will get an automatic email message notifying you once your documents have been uploaded. You will then have the opportunity to inspect your first drafts and request revisions. Attorney Resume writers work both for and with clients, which means that while we guide clients based on our expertise, our clients have the ultimate say in what is done. Using their login and password, clients are able to send messages to their writers through our state-of-the-art database system 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. Our writer will then continue to revise your documents until you are completely satisfied. Once you have received your final drafts, you can request revisions to your documents for up to two months after your initial sign-up date. We do offer extended revision services of up to four months (please see Our Services page for a detailed description of our offerings).

What about spam filter settings?
Throughout the process, Attorney Resume staff members will be sending you various important messages and updates concerning your order by email (sent through our system software). Clients often find that emails from our database end up in their bulk mail box instead of their inbox. Each email service is a little different, but if this has happened to you, identify the email received as "not spam," and the next time you receive an email from us, it should go into your inbox.

How do I fill out the questionnaire, upload my existing documents into your database, and use your company's message board?
After signing up, you will be able to use your email address and a password that you have chosen to access our database. On our homepage, once you log in, a new page will open with the questionnaire on it. Fill out the questionnaire with as much information as possible. For questions that do not apply, type in "N/A," and move on to the next question. When you have completed this, select the Submit button, and you will be taken to your client database page. You will then be able to upload your existing files into the database and leave us comments using our secure message board system.

What if I do not have any existing documents to give you?
If you do not have an existing resume or cover letter, you will need to be sure to sign up for our resume creation service. We can then craft a document for you from scratch using the completed questionnaire and additional messages you post to the database. Remember, the more information we have, the better the result!

Do you have any resume samples that I can look at?
Yes, you can see examples of our work under our website's Sample Work section.

What are the worst mistakes to avoid when preparing a resume?
When preparing a resume, it is important avoid the following mistakes: not determining a target or goal; focusing on just duties and responsibilities rather than on accomplishments, achievements, and successes; not organizing information in a way that highlights and showcases strong points; leaving off quantitative info such as sales increases or settling a case for a large amount; including irrelevant information instead of more important information such as dates or locations. These mistakes will always give a false representation of you and will hurt your resume.

Do I really need additional focused resumes and cover letters?
Resumes and cover letters that are geared for a particular application will often provide you with the best results; however, because of time and the emotional energy required to prepare a custom resume for each submission, job seekers can be easily discouraged. It is best to prepare one standard resume and cover letter that you can alter slightly if necessary but that will generally apply for all the jobs to which you are presently submitting applications. Different versions of your resumes and cover letters may be necessary if you are submitting to more than one industry focus, such as IP as well as family law, or if the type of office is different, for example, you are applying for an in-house counsel position for some applications and an associate at a law firm for others. Specialized cover letters are also appropriate for different geographic locations, particularly if you are admitted to one state where you are submitting applications but you are not admitted for another.

If I am a law student or recent graduate with little or no work experience, how should I go about preparing my resume?
Having experience is great, but it comes as no big surprise to potential employers when there is not much relevant experience listed on a law student or recent graduate's resume. If you do not have relevant internships or co-op positions, include your extracurricular activities or volunteer work on your resume. Related experience does not have to be paid experience. Prospective employers are always looking for employees with a good work ethic, motivation, and leadership skills. If you have a steady work history, you showed up for work on time, did your best, were cheerful to customers and clients, and worked well with your colleagues, then you will still be able to show that you are the type of individual that will do a great job. As a recent graduate or law student, employers expect to train you, so it is okay if you do not have experience. Your new position will give you the experience and knowledge you need to begin your legal career.
